Plenary Theme: The Role of PROMIS in Quality Performance
Clifton O. ("Bing") Bingham III, MD is Professor of Medicine and practicing Rheumatologist at Johns Hopkins University where he directs the Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center and serves as Director of Research in the Division of Rheumatology. His research and clinical interests aim to improve the lives of people living with arthritis and autoimmune diseases. He has been a principal investigator on numerous arthritis trials over the past 30 years that emphasized PROs as outcomes. As an executive committee member of OMERACT (Outcome Measures in Rheumatology), Dr. Bingham led multiple international efforts to create and standardize core outcome sets. He is a member of the C-Path Rheumatoid Arthritis Working Group to expand PRO measurement of treatment benefits in trials using PROMIS. His research aims to better measure the health, experiences, and life impact of chronic, painful and disabling diseases. Dr. Bingham has led the development of new measures and validated the application of PROMIS as “vital signs” in routine rheumatic disease care and clinical trials. His research has been funded by NIH, PCORI, Jerome L. Greene Foundation, and Stabler Foundation. He has authored more than 300 scientific publications, reviews, and book chapters. He has been a member of the PHO Board of Directors since 2023 and is the President-Elect for PHO.
